Our Story

Our Kaupapa

As a kaupapa Māori organisation, we are underpinned by our core values. These values, created through our whānau voice and feedback, are where all kaupapa at Mana Tāhuna are derived from.

Celebration of Te Ao Māori and Wānanga

Mana Tāhuna Charitable Trust leads our Tāhuna community through various celebrations and wānanga annually. Partnering with the Queenstown Lakes District Council, we hold large Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Matariki and Te Wiki O Te Reo Māori events for our community. With over 1200 attendees across these in 2022, we plan on expanding these in 2023!

We hold Toi Māori, Te Reo Māori, Kapa Haka, Mau Rākau and Whakapapa wānanga for whānau in our community. These wānanga always reach capacity.

WHS Planting Day

Every planting season, Mana Tāhuna partners with Wakatipu High School to hold Community Planting Days. Mana Tāhuna, along with all year nine students plant over 700 tipu. It was a great opportunity for us to teach these tauira not only how to plant a tree, but how to do our part as kaitiaki giving back to Papatūānuku.

Poipoia te kākano kia puawai.

Nurture the seed and it will blossom.

Mt. Dewar Project

In 2020 Mana Tāhuna partnered with TreeSpace to plant 7,000 new trees on Mt Dewar. This initiative provided employment for 15 whānau members and was the first project to be secured by Mana Tāhuna. It was also an opportunity for us to exercise our role as kaitiaki and do our part in protecting our whenua.
